Abstract

The increasing environmental burden of healthcare infrastructure has intensified global interest in sustainable hospital design. Traditional hospital systems are energy-intensive, resource-dependent, and major contributors to carbon emissions and medical waste generation. This study develops a comprehensive sustainability framework for green hospital infrastructure, positioning eco-efficient healthcare facilities as a mandatory standard rather than an optional design choice. The research synthesizes established environmental governance principles, healthcare architecture models, and green building standards to construct an integrated conceptual framework for sustainable hospital transformation. Drawing upon foundational sustainability literature and healthcare-specific green design studies, the paper identifies critical dimensions including energy efficiency, waste management, climate resilience, and patient-centered environmental quality. The study also critically evaluates implementation barriers such as financial constraints, institutional resistance, and technological limitations. A structured framework is proposed that aligns policy direction, architectural design, and operational healthcare systems into a unified sustainability model. The findings highlight that sustainable hospital infrastructure is not only environmentally necessary but also economically viable and socially beneficial when implemented through strategic planning and governance integration. The study contributes to the evolving discourse on sustainable healthcare by offering a scalable model applicable across diverse healthcare systems.
